Degree of freedom/bondage of the will

In this video , Pastor Driscoll's main argument is that dead people don't make decisions. His example is that of Lazarus , his death and subsquent resurrection by Jesus. Here he clearly states that man cannot choose God. In a way it's true . But he is not right in explaining it, especially using Lazarus.
            Man cannot without God's work in a man's life ,choose God. But man does not need to be regenerated  before choosing God. Man has a degree of freedom enough to respond to God. But he cannot without the work of the Holy Spirit , respond to God. Man is in bondage , in that he cannot by himself choose God.  Man is free in that , he can respond to the convicting work of God. He can when the Holy Spirit convicts him respond to him positively with repentance or negatively with hardening.

   An example of resisting :
   "You stiff necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears , you are just like your fathers.You always resist the Holy Spirit."  Acts 7:15.

 An example of responding :

³⁷ When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

³⁸ Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 

   
  The work of the Holy Spirit is not irresistable.


Judgement is based on this free will act of resisting or responding to the Holy Spirit.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. ¹⁸ Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

Jesus does not say , you cannot believe unless you are regenerated. He is actually teaching Nicodemus, how to be born again and inherit eternal life.The Holy Spirit is working like a wind ,working mysteriously among men. Whoever responds to Him and believes Christ, gets born again and inherits eternal life.Whoever resists him  remains in his state of sinfulness and thus remains in condemnation.

God is not going to judge a man ,for his choice , if he has not given him the ability to make a choice.
